Everything you need to know about Apple Maps launching on web browsers, intensifying competition with Google Maps.
Apple Maps is ramping up its rivalry with Google Maps by launching a web version. Despite being in beta, this new release enables users to use Apple Maps on a browser without requiring the app. Users can now access driving and walking directions, explore locations, read reviews, and more directly from their desktop browsers.
Apple Maps Beta: How to use web browser?
You can access Apple Maps in a browser at beta.maps.apple.com. Currently, the web-based version only supports English and works exclusively with Safari and Google Chrome on iPad and Mac. On Windows, it is compatible with Google Chrome and Edge. Apple has announced that support for other languages, browsers and platforms will be expanded over time.
Apple Maps online: what can you do?
Almost 12 years after the original launch, which took place all the way back in September 2023, Apple has introduced a web version of Apple Maps, marking a more aggressive challenge to Google. The web version supports several app-like features, such as getting walking or driving directions, searching for places, and checking reviews, photos, and hours. In addition, in certain areas, users can perform actions such as ordering food directly from the Apple Maps place card.
Since the service is still in beta, some features are missing, such as Look Around, which Apple has promised will be available in the coming months.
It’s also worth noting that Apple Maps was previously only available for Apple devices on macOS, iPadOS and iOS operating systems. Now that it’s available on Windows, a wider audience has access to Apple Maps.
